Nana Kofi Minta Addadzi-Koom

Born in Cape Coast, Ghana, a city rich in history and home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cape Coast Castle, my visual storytelling was shaped by my environment and family. My father, a math teacher and passionate photographer, documented our lives meticulously, introducing me to the power of images. Flipping through old photo albums, I realized how photography preserves moments, emotions, and narratives.

My artistic path expanded when I moved to Hangzhou, China, after high school to study Chinese language and international marketing. Surrounded by the interplay of ancient culture and futuristic architecture,

I began documenting the world around me. A pivotal moment came at West Lake(Xihu), where an elderly photographer critiqued my work and left me with a guiding principle: 摄影三步曲;1熟悉相机及器材2熟练相机3用思想去拍照 Which translates into : Understand your camera. Master your craft. Create with your mind.

This philosophy led me to capture stories across Asia and Europe, refining my approach to architecture, urban landscapes, and cultural storytelling. My work reflects the structures, identities, and emotions embedded in spaces, blending design, light, and history.

Moving to Chicago for grad school, I pursued technological entrepreneurship at Illinois Tech, where an unexpected conversation with a professor shifted my trajectory. He saw my photography, invited me to shape the visual identity of a new program, and gave me the freedom to choose my own title—I became Creative Director. Inspired by Virgil Abloh, of Ghanaian heritage and an Illinois Tech alum, I launched Mint Magazine, a magazine editorial redefining college student experiences.

My work now spans editorials, architecture photography, short films, AI-generated art, and creative consulting.
